Sharpen your pencils, pack your lunch, we're getting a lesson from Shepherd's junior arbiters of style. Rachel, Vivian and Myriam are students whose high energy and youthful spirit brighten our days as we work side by side with them during their summer breaks. We took "the young ones" under our wing, and in return, we have (unexpectedly) benefited from their valuable insights on fashion.
The Student Becomes The Teacher
Our Shepherd's sophomores share our same excitement for all the new collections in store; however, what sets them apart is the way they assemble an outfit. The younger set learn of the fashion trends by relying on their own network of resources, namely Instagram and Pinterest. To further feed their passion for fashion, there are fashion "influencers" of all ages and styles, ranging from the classic Jackie-O and Grace Kelly, to current fashion darling, Olivia Palermo and bad girl, Rihanna.
We gave our threesome the assignment of putting together a fall look that they would gladly (and truly) wear. Their efforts as presented below and we have to say, straight A's for all!

Vivian recently went to see the documentary of her favourite style icon, 93 year old Iris Apfel.[/caption]
Wanting to showcase her favourite fall look, Vivian headed straight for the Planet collection of knit tops. She enjoys the "stylishly oversized" cut, but cautions against going oversized for both top and bottom. Her recommendation is to combine a fuller top with a skinny jean or jegging for silhouette balance. Even though boot cut and flared jeans are the hottest pant shape, the slim leg is still very big this season.

Here, Vivian is pictured wearing a striped Planet knit top ($392), fabricated from cotton and modal. In the lower left hand corner, she is pictured in Planet's turtleneck swing top ($245).[/caption]
A Not So Basic Goes To The Head Of The Class

In her 'selfie', Rachel is wearing another beautiful Planet top, the ribbed textured V-neck ($229), over top of a Comfy tunic blouse ($178), and an ever-so-classic pearl bracelet ($60).[/caption]
Rachel has fallen for our crisp crop of longer tunic length white blouses from the Comfy and Stella Carakasi collections. " I love them all" she exclaims. Rachel's signature look at work and in life begings with a legging and a flat shoe or boot which she will match up with a striking top. In this combination, the essential white blouse serves as a base worn under a knit sweater for a forward fashionista feel.
Back To The Drawing Board
Pictured on Vivian is the bateau neck, striped knit top from Eileen Fisher in merino wool ($295), which takes centre stage when worn under the boiled wool, kimono vest also from Eileen Fisher.
Let's take a step back in time (remember the 1980's) when tucking a top in your jeans, was the thing to do. It would seem that the advent of the higher waisted jean has brought about this revised trend - which may not be so flattering for everyone. This blog writer is now listing all of the carbs she will have to eliminate from her daily snacking regime to achieve this full tuck look.
Denim Makes the Grade
Myriam shows us how versatile a great cut denim dress can be. This figure flattering frock from Sandwich is punctuated with structured seam detailing. Combine it with an opaque tight and tailored jacket for a dressed down work day. Or, as shown here, Myriam has given it a youthful kick assembled with a skinny ankle jean and necklaces, worn as a belt around her hips. Brilliant and boppy!
