Interior decorator and Shepherd's visual merchandiser, Kirsten Vint, recently hosted the first "Fun with Blooms" hands-on silk flower workshop, where participants got to create lasting arrangements.
"Flowers are an integral part of decorating; be it a centrepiece, bridal bouquet, or colourful bunch of gerbera daisies on your kitchen counter," states Kirsten. "A bit of blooms adds happiness and colour to any décor."
The choice between fresh and artificial flowers boils down to personal preference. "With today's technology, permanent botanicals look realistic and feel lifelike. Sometimes it's nearly impossible to tell them apart which is why I will often recommend silk florals," adds Kirsten.
Quality silk flowers are more detailed and intricate and, although initially higher in price, their durability and realistic look is amazing.
Allergies can be a real pain for some people, especially those who are allergic to pollen. With artificial flowers you are free to place them anywhere and everywhere without tickling anyone's nose. These arrangements are also great for people who are highly scent-sensitive and cannot tolerate the aroma fresh flowers produce.
