Our Newest Summer Dress Style - The One Pocket T-Shirt Dress Keeps You Cool, with many appealing details, like a mid-length sleeve, a slim line that skims over the mid-section, and a knee length hemline.
It has – and it’s called the T-Shirt Dress. Part sundress, part tailored long shirt, the t-shirt dress has been around for awhile. But, thanks to the pandemic, sweatshirts and comfy joggers are finally having their fashion moment, and they’re making space in the closet for stylish yet practical t-shirt dresses
Unlike a long baggy t-shirt, a t-shirt dress is flattering without being figure-hugging, thanks to it's cut and use of bamboo, rayon or cotton blends. It’s fitted where it needs to be – think shoulders and a cute sleeve – but it is generous where a seasoned woman needs it to be.
Best of all, it travels from day to night and from the office to the cottage. For tall women, a longer t-shirt dress’ slightly tailored line flows effortlessly off the bust to above the knee. For more petite ladies, it can be worn above or below the knee or even with leggings.
Layer it up. For a business casual look, pull on a cropped cardigan over the t-shirt dress, push back the sleeves and add some spunky bangles, statement earrings and wedges. Transitioning to the cottage? Swap out the sweater for a distressed jean jacket, Converse All-Stars or ballet flats and simple hoop earrings. Colder nights might require an unstructured sweatshirt draped casually across the shoulders.
Choose your neckline. Knowing your body type starts with the neck. And, just like tees, t-shirt dresses come in rounded, v-neck, bateau neck or mock-turtle neck to elongate or shorten the neckline.
Pockets? Yes, please! The world would be happier place if every dress came with pockets. Find a style that has a flattened interior stitched down pocket that doesn’t bulge at the hip.
Finally, a word about colour. While there is no ‘this season’s colour’ when it comes to t-shirt dresses, Shepherds carries them in key colours, like navy, fawn, white, grey and black. Whatever you choose, the best advice is to buy two – they’ll be in constant rotation this summer.
