It’s runway season and we are seeing some truly captivating looks. Who among us hasn’t been inspired and awe-struck by an outfit a designer or influencer put together and thought “If only! I could never afford that look.”
You’re not alone, and at Shepherd’s we’re spilling the beans on how to achieve the Fall looks we’re all drooling over… for a fraction of the cost!
The key is to start with what you have. Spend some time in your closet, see what you already have that could serve as the base for a coveted look you are admiring. It’s often as simple as adding a few trend pieces and BAM you’ve got the Instagram worthy look.
Wondering where to find this inspiration? Look everywhere!! We like to get inspired by fashion influencers, designers, fashions shows, magazine ads, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok etc. Influencers set the tone as to what’s hot right now. Follow their lead! It’s about being inspired by a look and being able to recreate that look (or a part of it!).
When you find a look you love, take a picture, and bring it back to your closet first. Now it’s time to do some work and achieve the look for less! Work with what you have - mix it up and recreate your look without adding a whole new wardrobe. With a bit of creativity, you will figure out what works from your existing wardrobe, and from there decide on a few key pieces to pick up that will make things special and trendy. These add-on pieces should be items that you’re absolutely going to love to wear, and you’ll wear a lot.
The key is to use the looks as inspiration and take it to where you feel comfortable. Take what you like about the look and twist it so that it works for you.
Have fun with it! Be flexible and bend the rules a bit. Try black denim instead of blue. Maybe your feet can’t handle heels anymore – try a pair of loafers instead. If your personality calls for it, rock a big funky necklace instead of a long delicate chain. Tone it down to make it “you” if the pattern or the colour is too loud but you like the look.
If you can’t find any examples of looks you want to replicate, but still want to get in on the Fall trends, we’ve drummed up a few of our best tips to help you stay “of the moment” this season:
- Oversized sweaters – go up a size for the trend effect.
- Simplicity - Minimal accessories makes it look expensive.
- Big tote bag – Double points for double straps.
- Layers, layers, layers – Add a coat over your blazer. If you run hot, try a sleeveless turtleneck, or a dickie.
However you get inspired, and to whatever degree you participate in trends, we hope that this Fall’s styles bring you that cozy warm feeling that you can only get from looking your best!
